Alexander III of Macedon, also known as Alexander the Great, was a king of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon.

1 Alexander the Great became the first Greek ruler to put his face on Greek coins. Previously, Greek coins had the face of a god or goddess.

2 In 15 years of ruling, Alexander never lost a single battle. His tactics are still studied today.

3 He had 361 wives!

9 In 324 BC, he held a drinking contest among his troops. A total of 42 men had died of alcohol poisoning due to the competition including the champion who drank over 13 liters.

10 People never admired his leadership while he was alive. He was known as a drunken tyrant. After his death, Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, and Octavian, all made pilgrimages to Alexander the Great’s tomb.
